Southern Gal Biscuits
- 2 cups sifted flour ( I don't sift it or anything else for that matter)
- 4 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp cream of tartar
- 2 TBS sugar
- 1/2 cup shortening (I use butter crisco)
- 1 egg, unbeaten
- 2/3 cup milk
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Sift flour, baking powder, salt, sugar, and cream of tartar into bowl. Add shortening, blend until consistency of cornmeal. Pour milk into mixture slowly, add egg, stir to s stiff dough. Turn onto floured surface and knead 5 times. Roll 1/2 inch thick, cut into squares, or use cookie cutter or other round cutter object (I sometimes dip the top of a water glass in flour and use it). Bake on cookie sheet 10 - 15 minutes at 450 degrees.
