New Years Day ~ First Grilling of the Year
As I was growing up as a kid
Mom would pull the grill out
of the garage
New Years Morning.
We didn't have alot of money and sometimes
had to use my check ($26.32) from working
for a veterinarian ~ Old Doc Winn.
Sometimes we would grill
hot dogs, brats, chicken,
a whole turkey or a small
ham and grilled potatoes.
Once I came back to Whitewater when I was pregnant with my son, Ethan ~
The tradition was still going on
I kept it up for many years
but it became
New York Stip Steaks and grilled potatoes.
The first year with my now ex-husband
i told him he had to continue the tradition
It was -40 degree windchill
He balked at the idea
but did it
and always looked forward to the next year.
I still do this but do miss a year now and then
because I use to work holidays
every year.
Now I work third shift
and
my holiday ends early because I
have to go to work
a few hours before
the holiday day ends.

Made my traditional Home made Biscuits and Gravy We did not grill this year but I made home made french fries and boiled then fried brats on a cast iron ridged flat pan (not sure what it is really called but the brats look like they were grilled)

I work both Walmart and McDonalds New Years day, so our typical New Year day will have to be another day

I wanted a big roast joint but my oven is too small so I think it will be grilled steaks here.

Re: New Years Day ~ First Grilling of the Year
I am going to try a traditional New Years meal on Saturday. Went to Walmart to get the pork sausage but all they had was the hot variety and of course His Majesty doesn't want hot. Will have to look tomorrow and see if we got some in. Not sure about the grilling part yet. I don't have my grill out here but when we moved in we got a Weber Grill from the trailer park.
