What is some good advice you got growing up?

When I was 13 I think, my Grandfather told me, don't get married until you are 25, get a good job and finish your education. He also told me not to cut my hair. lol

I was talking to a foreign student at UW Milwaukee in my sophomore year of college after I had broke my ankle parachuting.  He told me it was OK to have your head in the clouds but to make sure you keep your feet on the ground.  I thought it was just being funny but over the years, I remember that quote and fully understand the real meaning of it.  I was always a realistic person in College, but at the time did not understand the meaning of the quote.
