We are all supposedly being poisoned in our own homes by our daily reliance on powerful and toxic detergents (which we then rinse away into the water supply, poisoning everyone else).

To avoid this, making your own cleaning products is easy, pleasing, and cost-effective.

Plus you can wipe down your surfaces without having to make babies and infants leave the room first, or giving yourself a coughing fit.

Plus it works.

Plus it's really cheap and doesn't give you weird rashes on your hands and arms, unlike many a cleaning product we could name.

A common ingredient in the lots of recipes is borax, which is a very safe substance (it turns up in some cosmetics, not that that is any guarantee) with low toxicity for humans. It is a highly effective anti-bacterial, cleaning fungicidal and bleaching agent, and is a safe and healthy option both for you and for the little planet.

You can get it inexpensively from stores like Wal-Mart and Tesco and Boots.
